This programme presents three films all shot in Asia which address, in different ways, the communication between remotely distant worlds. The screening of Near Mandalay is a world premiere documenting a Buddhist pilgrimage to sites around the historic royal capital Mandalay. In Dow Song Duang the inhabitants of peasant villages in Thailand discuss several classic European paintings. Contemplated outside of the museum, in such an atypical context, entirely different aspects are illuminated than in the traditional European canon. The film The Exception and the Rule is nominated for the transmediale Award 2010 and part of the larger project The Museum of Non Participation. It explores under which conditions dialogues between Pakistan and Europe can be based on art (films).

...Dieses Programm präsentiert drei Filme, die in Asien gedreht wurden und auf sehr unterschiedliche Weise die Kommunikation zwischen weit voneinander entfernten Welten thematisieren. Near Mandalay (Weltpremiere), dokumentiert eine buddhistische Wallfahrt zu den Orten nahe der historischen Königsstadt Mandalay. Klassiker der europäischen Malerei werden in Dow Song Duang von Einwohnern thailändischer Bauerndörfer diskutiert. Ausserhalb ihres gewöhnlichen musealen Kontextes kommen völlig andere Aspekte dieser hierzulande längst kanonisierten Werke ans Licht. Der für den transmediale Award 2010 nominierte Film The Exception and the Rule ist Teil des grösseren Projekts The Museum of Non Participation und untersucht die Bedingungen zeitgenössischer (Film-) Kunst als dialogische Form zwischen Pakistan und Europa.
