Opening Performance
DUST by Herman Kolgen
Inspired by 1920 Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray's photograph Élevage de poussière, DUST explores changes in the state of matter. At the edge of the imperceptible, pigments are suspended around a magnetic field. Random fibrous networks take shape and then form composite objects, hypnotic in their complexity. Sound particles paired with luminous aggregates exist on a scale that cancels out all points of reference. Thus, at the turning point between the invisible and the visible, dust becomes intoxicating and the video surface a veritable accumulation of x-rays.
At transmediale.11 this performance will be shown for the first time in Germany.

Inspiriert von der Fotografie Élevage de poussière von Marcel Duchamp und Man Ray aus dem Jahr 1920, wendet sich DUST den Aggregatszuständen zu. An der Grenze der Wahrnehmbarkeit befinden sich Pigmente um ein Magnetfeld herum. Willkürliche Fasernetze werden zu Verbundgegenständen von hypnotischer Komplexität. Feste Partikel existieren in Kombination mit leuchtenden Aggregaten auf einem Niveau, das alle Orientierungspunkte aufhebt. Am Wendepunkt von Sicht- und Unsichtbarkeit wird Staub zum Rauschmittel und die Videooberfläche zu einer wahren Ansammlung von Röntgenstrahlen.
Die Performance wird auf der transmediale.11 zum ersten Mal in Deutschland gezeigt.
