  • Ritualistic Cinema

This conversational panel brings together Montika Kham-On, Tianzhuo Chen, and Laura Huertas Millán to reflect on practices of ritualistic cinema that extend film beyond the screen. Across their works, cinema appears as apparition, invocation, and ceremonial presence – unfolding through installation, performance, sound, and collective attention rather than remaining bound to projection alone.

Moderated by Djamila Grandits, the conversation explores how these practices mobilise ritual, repetition, and embodied participation to re·assemble images into lived encounters. Attending to ancestral memory, spiritual continuities, and more-than-human relations, the panel considers cinema as a compassing practice – one that opens thresholds, alters perception, and allows images to act as presences rather than representations.
