As part of the cooperation with Transgressive Memory Festival, transmediale presents the new work of the 2026 Vilém Flusser resident Martyna Marciniak alongside a collaborative project between Laura Cugusi, Machine Yearning, and Federico Zurani as contributions to the festival’s exhibition in silent green.
How and through which lenses do we remember in the age of algorithms, artificial intelligence, and digital media? Who decides which stories are preserved, forgotten, or rewritten? Transgressive Memory is a new festival, which explores how contemporary art and critical thinking are transforming the ways we as societies relate ourselves to our multifaceted pasts, organised by eCommemoration, the programme for artistic and transgressive forms of (digital) memory-making initiated by Körber-Stiftung.
For the Transgressive Memory Festival, transmediale contributes to the exhibition with two works presented at transmediale studio. Both respond to the question of how memory mutates and reconstructs itself through digital systems, focusing on the moment when computational infrastructure stops representing history and begins rewriting it. Moving between ideological excavation of techno-libertarian mythology and forensic investigation into computational memory, the projects reflect one of transmediale's core concerns: the logics of visual culture online and how images come to shape, and unshape, the way we perceive and understand our pasts, presents, and futures.
The works are presented amongst artists who explore how media shape the ways we remember. Moving across archives, algorithms, landscapes, games, rituals, and digital networks, the works reveal memory as something continuously produced through the technologies and infrastructures that make the past visible or erase it. With works by Maithu Bùi, Hussein Shikha, Göksu Kunak, Raisan Hameed, Qusay Awad, Yara Richter, and others.
transmediale studio will be open on September 12 and 13 from 11:00 to 22:00.
Access only via Betonhalle. Free admission.
