The Inexorable Non-Player Character brings the work of Nina Davies and 2girls1comp together in a new collaboration for transmediale.
The performance focuses on feedback loops in which digital and physical bodies shape one another by tracing NPC movements from game worlds, to TikTok videos, and into real-life contexts where they go on to inform predictive technologies and AI systems. The work links Nina Davies' film work Precursing, with 2girls1comp's game mod, Dancing Plague through a live performance based on online dance trends rooted in the GTA V series.
Featuring Juan Pablo Cámara, Yi-Chi Lee and Richard Pye.
Nina Davies’ Precursing investigates NPC dance trends on TikTok as subconscious acts of resistance against a future dictated by predictive technologies.
2girls1comp’s Dancing Plague is a script that forces male NPCs in GTA V to perform animations originally designed for the game's female population, liberating them from the constrictions of their programming.
Starting on the 03.02. the video work Dancing Plague, by 2girls1comp is available for free on HAU4 the digital Stage of HAU (Hebbel am Ufer) .
