We are delighted to present a special screening featuring three selected works by Ho Tzu Nyen on the occasion of his video installation Newton being nominated for this year's transmediale Award. Ho Tzu Nyen is a performance artist, writer and filmmaker working with moving image for installations and cinema productions alike. Similar versatility is evident in his formal approach where one film hardly resembles another, as if he invents a unique language for each new subject. His debut film Utama – Every Name In History Is I tells a foundation history of his home country, Singapore, and is as experimental as it is speculative. The Bohemian Rhapsody Project is a trial in the style of a music video to a song by Queen, while the suggestive piece Earth consists of a tableau vivant referencing classical European paintings in an apocalyptic setting.

Ho Tzu Nyen ist ein sehr vielseitiger Künstler, er arbeitet mit Bewegtbild sowohl für Installationen als auch Kino, er inszeniert am Theater, macht Performances und schreibt über Kunst. Ähnlich vielseitig ist auch seine formale Herangehensweise; kaum ein Film gleicht dem anderen. Es scheint, als würde er für jedes Thema eine ganz eigene Form entwickeln. Sein erster Film Utama – Every Name In History Is I ist eine gleichermaßen experimentelle wie spekulative Gründungsgeschichte Singapurs. The Bohemian Rhapsody Project inszeniert im Stil eines Musikvideos eine Gerichtsverhandlung zu einem Song von Queen. Und die suggestive Arbeit Earth besteht aus einem Tableau Vivant, welches Gemälde der europäischen Kunstgeschichte in einem apokalyptischen Raum zitiert.
Ho Tzu Nyen wird als Gast bei der Vorführung anwesend sein und für eine Diskussion zur Verfügung stehen.
