Basir Mahmood’s film moon-sighting probes how bonds shared by Mirpuri communities in Pakistan and Britain can unravel through processes of ‘othering’ as what's deemed to be Mirpuri in Britain can be defined as British in Mirpur. Originally released in 2019, Mahmood’s film unleashed a social media storm as Mipuri communities in the UK and Pakistan engaged in trash-talk battles animated through the language of car culture.
The event will take the form of a conversation between Basir Mahmood and political geographer சிந்துஜன் வரதராஜா (Sinthujan Varatharajah), alongside a screening of the film and behind the scenes footage of its production.
