We Don’t Care For Democracy, This Is What We Want: Love And Hope And Its Many Faces

We Dont Care For Democracy This Is What We Want Love And Hope And Its Many Faces

John Torres is a poet among Filipino filmmakers outside the commercial film industry. He has developed an idiosyncratic cinematic syntax, in which on- or off-screen spoken texts, including poetry by local authors, are of great importance. The visual and narrative structure of his feature films is associative and fragmented. In his allegorical short film We Don’t Care For Democracy, This Is What We Want: Love And Hope And Its Many Faces, a young couple wakes up in the morning. Lying in bed, half asleep, they talk about a dream she had about him cheating on her, which emerges as a possible reality between the two of them.
