[Withdrawn] Spoiled Spores

2019, cheeses grown from mould, video, 9´

Spoiled Spores contrasts DIY and foodie culture with the reality of gentrification and precarity that prevails in cities. The fridge showcases a series of cheeses made from cultures of black mould sampled from rented accommodation in Dublin and London. Stachybotrys chartarum, more commonly known as black mould, is a fungus found in buildings with high humidity, often due to insufficient insulation, rising damp, or leaks.

Playing with the notions of disgust and desire by juxtaposing the microbiology of poor living conditions with high-end food commodities, the inedible cheese wheels are presented as a bait that embodies the exploitative nature of the housing system and the cultivation of luxury for the few.
