Emergence: Hidden States and Other Worlds is a research project investigating a technological systems whose operation is based on the continuous re-differentiation of entangled systems, making visible what escapes formalisation within experiences of coexistence. Artificial intelligence is not deployed here to interpret or represent the world, but to modulate the conditions under which phenomena emerge. Rather than mapping inputs to outputs, the system distributes events across time through variable latencies, feedback loops, and non-linear dependencies that resist stable states.
The notion of latency is the project's backbone – not as a technical delay to be optimised, but as a structural condition of emergence and a lived temporality that sustains multiple, asynchronous rhythms. Drawing on neuroscience's understanding of how delayed signals are integrated into a coherent present, the research explores what becomes possible when temporal discrepancies are sustained rather than resolved.
Emergence: Hidden States and Other Worlds is part of the coExistence Residency in collaboration with HEK (Basel, Switzerland) and Pleamar (Mar del Plata, Argentina), made possible with the support of Pro Helvetia.
