Starting point for the film is the video footage of four YouTube members and the question how much of the self actually remains in the material. In four parts Eight Characters and Two Syllables addresses the community, the self-expression of the users, their motivation and their relationship to the audience.

Ausgangspunkt des Filmes ist das Videomaterial vierer YouTube-Mitglieder und die Frage, wieviel Selbst in dem Videomaterial letztlich haften blieb. In vier Blöcken thematisiert Eight Characters and Two Syllables die Community, die Selbstdarstellung der Userinnen, deren Motivation und das Verhältnis zum Publikum.
