TecnoIllas del Deseo

2026

El Alto Aesthetics, TecnoIllas del Deseo, Techne·Shrine at transmediale 2026

The Alasitas and the illas/miniatures that inhabit them can be understood as technologies of desire and therefore as carriers of future possibilities. They are objects that mediate between longing and its possible fulfillment. Alasitas illas do not operate under the digital binary logic of zero and one (absence and presence), but rather through the presence of what is to come: an intermediate state in which the future is part of the present, through small objects that condense possibilities.

We will use the illas as devices to imagine/manifest utopias from an Aymara–Andean, El Alto–based context. Pluriversal desires, anti-border, restitutive of territory, food sovereignty, and cultural autonomy, etc. Each illa will be a projection, a political intention, a mini-technology for designing possible worlds.

Materially, the installation will be presented as an Altar of miniatures, inspired by popular market stalls of the southern Andes. This altar will bring together a series of illas that will remain visible throughout the entire festival (Low Tide), and at a specific moment, these miniatures will be activated in a reading-performance (High Tide).

Each illa on the altar will be a symbolic sculpture of a political desire for the future, accompanied by a title representative of that future.
