Kibanda Video Hall is a space for collective viewing, live commentary, and present-tense circulation. It hosts presentism.mp4, a program composed of curated YouTube playlists activated through live jamming, alongside occasional short films and karaoke lecture performances. Rather than presenting fixed works, the hall operates through selection, interruption, and recombination – treating circulation itself as a compositional practice.

In presentism.mp4, comments are brought to the forefront as discursive spaces. Annotations, chat, and spoken responses are not peripheral but central, shaping how images are read, contested, and re-activated. Karaoke lecture performances extend this logic by inviting voices to speak with, over, and through the screen. Kibanda Video Hall frames viewing as a social interface – where meaning is produced live, collectively, and in relation.

《I Know This Script By Heart》Short Drama Trope Lullaby: drama report by Ran Zhang

This "drama report" highlights iconic Chinese short-drama characters with generated footage. It turns popular dialogues into karaoke lyrics, styled as Douyin bullet comments. Reading the flying lyrics lets us perform the roles. The sound design combines the iconic drum sounds of 2000s Mandarin ballads with classic short-drama effects from a popular video editor’s audio library. The video offers a glimpse into how this industry mass-produces effective, high-drama content that resonates deeply with adults in today's fast-paced Chinese society.

presentism.mp4

Unfolding in the Kibanda Video Hall as a YouTube-based programme, presentism.mp4 is activated through curated playlists, live jamming, and foregrounded comment sections, alongside occasional short films and karaoke lecture performances – treating circulation, translation, and commentary as integral cinematic energies. Rather than presenting fixed works, the hall operates through selection, interruption, and recombination – treating circulation itself as a compositional practice.
