David Bovill is an artist and media systems designer working across interactive media, civic technology, and alternative governance. His practice spans three decades and moves between participatory installation, community infrastructure, documentary games, and legal/economic experimentation. His currency-related work includes Flower Bank (2004, with Monochrom), a cryptographic artist currency backed by pressed flowers; NetzNetz (2005), a liquid democracy platform for distributing arts funding in Vienna; and Liquid Law (2010–), a framework for programmable collective decision-making, recognised by City Camp London and featured by DotGovLabs. Since 2014 he has worked with the core Ethereum team, contributed to the development of Lexon – a legal programming language designed to make smart contracts human-readable – and wrote the original concept for Plantoid, the self-reproducing blockchain artwork. He is currently working on Hitchhikers.earth, a backcasting project for imagining viable futures.
