The world is all that can be heard: the central theme of SCOPE is the loud-speaker – on masts, in railway stations, on roofs, in car-radios, household radios, in headphones, telephone receivers or radio equipment. The listeners are only portrayed as blurred or on the edges of the frames. Sounds and montages of sounds are emitted from loudspeakers: indistinct parts of communication, distorted music, announcements and station-searching. The ubiquitous generic noise that belongs in its essence to the modern world is all too rarely discerned; Volker Schreiner provides us with a new, different and forgotten voice.
