For sheer fervour, few songs about rivers can rival the rousing hymns celebrating the Moskva. But they were written a long time ago. Aquaphonia trades the elegiac for the comic and updates the ode mode with a video illustrating very solid, if defunct, dreams. A boat trip on the Moscow-Volga Canal takes us back to a future that never happened. Stalin ordered the excavation of the canal, one of the largest artificial waterways on earth, in the 1930s, dreaming of flourishing industrial Communist landscapes and contented souls sporting white sailors' caps. Ahoy!
