Lancel/Maat

Karen Lancel is currently a PhD candidate in the arts at the Technical University of Delft. She was member of the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK) and the research group ARTI (Artistic Research, Theory & Interpretation) of Professors Marijke Hoogenboom and Henk Borgdorff from 2008 to 2011. Lancel works together with Hermen Maat to design objects, projections, and digital networks, creating “meeting places” in urban public spaces. These meeting places are designed as seductive visual performances and installations. The audience is invited to experiment and play with social technologies and to reflect on their perceptions and experiences of public space. Hermen Maat teaches media art at the Minerva Art Academy Groningen, and is part of the Minerva Academy research group Image in Context of Dr. Anke Coumans. As core lecturer, Lancel headed the interactive media art department (IME) at Frank Mohr Institute (MFA) in Groningen from 2005 to 2008.
