Expert meeting at the intersection of culture and net politics

Understanding Post-digital Cultural Forms was an intensive One-Day Review Summit organized by transmediale in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office and hosted by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, 10 November 2014. In this project, the term post-digital stands for a speculative and critical “far beyond the hype” engagement with art and cultural production in a world where digitisation has had a global impact on cultural practices, organisation, economy, and politics.

This first Post-Digital Review gathered more than thirty German and international experts from the fields of digital culture art, politics, curation and research. Through a number of working groups and discussion sessions the purpose was to initiate a critical review process of post-digital cultural forms of practices, organisation, economy and politics. The ongoing review process aims to create new conceptual frameworks, outline possible institutional partnerships, cooperation projects and other forms of cultural exchange in today's diversified landscape of technology based and transdisciplinary art and cultural production. This and follow up events at the transmediale festival (and beyond) will continue an ongoing objective of the festival and its all-year platform, the reSource, to discuss cultural forms in transformation.
