With software processes entering broadcasting culture, a young generation of hands-on thinkers and producers has become attracted to radio as a medium for community projects and artistic endeavours alike. This global panel of broadcast pioneers and radio artists looks at the unique qualities of radiophonic practice and explores the future of experimental transmission.

Technological development, and in particular the miniaturization of transmitters and the fact that they can be put together by amateurs, 'encounters' a collective aspiration for some new means of expression. (Plan for the Planet, Guattari)

Community radio's collective expression has seen it develop over recent decades into a remarkably suited space for artistic intervention, subversive communication and collaborative action. As a direct result of web technologies and open source software, radio is now reaching a new generation of hands-on thinkers and makers who are taking this space and shaping not only broadcast content, but the platforms and processes that carry it. This global panel of broadcast pioneers and radio artists look at the unique qualities of radiophonic practice and explore the future of experimental transmission.
