Plastic Bag tells the epic tale of a plastic bag. The bag in the film has the ability to see, feel and think aloud—in Werner Herzog's distinctive voice. The world is a mystery to the bag. Why did its owner discard it? From the landfill it is blown through deserted residential areas and abandoned industrial sites, across fields and through woods. It searches for its owner in vain, but in the man-made world devoid of people things are left themselves. Finally, the plastic bag ends up in the Pacific Ocean trash vortex: the promised nirvana where it settles among its own kind. The short film of movie director Ramin Bahrani is part of the second edition of Futurestates, an Independent Television Service (ITVS) online series on the topic of America's future.
