Instrument Inventors Initiative
The instrument inventors initiative (iii) represents a community of artists whose practice involves the creation of unique media. The artists of iii draw upon materials, knowledge, and skills from diverse fields, including visual arts, music, theatre, architecture, philosophy, psychology, computer science, engineering, chemistry, and physics. Viewed aside from material, technical, or disciplinary qualities, these media find a common origin in the necessity of their makers to negotiate a complex and changing cultural landscape. We suggest a paradoxical but powerful idea that science can be adapted to individual sensitivities, leading to a multiplicity of universal standards.
