The short films shown in this programme address the paradoxes gathering at the margins of communication processes. While such endeavours particularly aim for functional consensus between members of a society they seemingly also engender a whole range of peculiarities. Desync Systems presents five such examples.

All societies strive to develop a functional consensus between their members and communicate with each other through a number of official and unofficial channels. The works presented in this programme reflect the failings of such processes. Dick Cheney In a Cold, Dark Cell is a found footage film with disturbing material that is given ambiguous meanings through its title. In Gesang der Jünglinge, police officers test the effect of electroshock weapons – a rather peculiar form of interpersonal communication – on their own bodies. The performative piece Real Snow White documents Disney World's attempt to maintain control over the company's creations even in relation to their own fans. The way nationalism can appropriate landscape is portrayed in Flag Mountain. And the documentary Madame & Little Boy follows the incredible story of an actress during the propaganda war between North and South Korea.
