Andrea Núñez Casal
Andrea Núñez Casal (es, uk) is a “la Caixa”-funded MPhil/PhD candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work blends together her academic background in molecular biology, biotechnology and cultural studies. Her research project, entitled Excursus on the Immune System, explores how conceptions of immunity are being reconfigured by microbiome research. Andrea is particularly interested in the entanglements of geopolitics, cultures and biomedicine involved in the traffic between the biological and the social, as situated in both the past of colonial & imperial science and within contemporary global health and its attendant inequalities' distribution. Nuñez Casal has presented her work and received a number of grants internationally, most notably by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (E-COST) and the São Paulo School of Advanced Sciences (SPSAS). She has previously participated in the exhibition Art meets Science/Naturkunden II as part of a collaboration with Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
