Alex Gakuru

Alex Gakuru is an activist for openness and is particularly concerned with
transparent governance for an open connected society, Free and Open Source
Software, and Open Standards, among others.
He serves as chair of the ICT Consumers Association of Kenya (ICAK) that
envisions 'enlightened consumers enjoying high quality, affordable,
widespread and safe information and communication services.', as well as 
member of the Freedom of Information Civil Society Coalition led by the
International Commission of Jurists - Kenyan Section, advocating for the
enactment of Freedom of Information Law. He sits at the Kenya Bureau of
Standards KEBS JTC/SC34 TC where Chairs new ICT Standards Working Group
that recommended use of FOSS for upcoming standards-setting portal for the
Bureau. He is also Vice-Chair of the National ICT Standards Task Force and
also is Chair to the Awareness Marketing and Publicity Working Group of the
National IPv6 Task Force.
In addition to consulting on ICT and developing software solutions, he
undertakes research at the interface of technology and society, and
publishes in a variety of local and international media - newspapers,
magazines and blogs. Alex is proud father of two children.
