The matinee programme approaches the art of found image appropriation and the relationship between image and sound from two disparate poles by juxtaposing the two films Wednesday Morning Two A.M. and A Kiss From Mary Pickford. This rarely screened gem of early Soviet cinema will be accompanied by live piano music from composer Peter Gotthardt.

The matinee programme approaches the art of found image appropriation and the relationship between image and sound from two disparate poles: Wednesday Morning Two A.M. by Lewis Klahr from 2009 collages and animates images onto a pop song by the Shangri-Las. Seventy-two years earlier Sergei Komarov created a predecessor of appropriation art with A Kiss From Mary Pickford, a feature film based on 'stolen' images of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. Peter Gotthardt, composer of the celebrated soundtrack of The Legend of Paul and Paula, will accompany the screening of this rarely shown gem live on piano.
