Cape Town has one of the highest murder rates in the world and a long history of gangs. In GANGSTER BACKSTAGE the artist adopted the same strategy as for GANGSTER PROJECT. He placed an announcement in the Daily Voice newspaper: “Looking for actors for a gangster film, experience of gangsterism appreciated.” Of the people who answered the call and came to the casting, he chose five characters with whom the team worked in an empty theatre space. – TE
